Located in Hull, GenderShift will be opened at 2.00pm on Sunday by actress Victoria Atkin, who plays 15-year-old Jasmine/Jason Costello in the soap.

Organisers believe it will be the UK’s first support centre exclusively for people facing gender identity and sexual orientation issues.

As part of Hollyoaks’ new family the Costellos, Atkin’s character feels trapped in a female body and yearns to dress and live as a man.

Last month, viewers saw the character’s mother discover hidden boys’ clothes in the house.

Atkin hopes her role will bring public attention to the difficulties faced by trans people.

She told PinkNews.co.uk: “I’m delighted to be able to support the opening of the Gendershift support centre.

“Having worked with a number of transgender teens on the Hollyoaks storyline, I understand how important it is for them to have a place where they can share their thoughts, hopes and fears.”

The centre is funded by a £262,000 grant from the Department of Health, which was part of a £25m budget to fund new and innovative approaches to tackling health issues.

GenderShift plans to work closely with sexual health clinics, mental health trusts, local authorities and social services.

Rikki Arundel, who founded GenderShift in 2007, said: “Many support services for lesbian, gay and bisexual people focus on sexual health, while support for trans people is often about gender reassignment surgery. We will provide a much broader service.”

The centre’s services will offer in-house counselling, social care, education and advice, sexual health support and work placements. It will also host social events such as movie nights.

Gendershift’s director Michelle Pindar added: “We do what we can to change attitudes so that we are more accepted, but trans people are often very isolated. Now we can help to tackle the isolation as well.”

The NHS estimates that one in 4,000 people in the UK is receiving medical help for gender identity issues, although it is thought that many more may not come forward.

Justin and Hannah are working together behind the SU bar, and clashing all the time. And yet it seems obvious to observers that Justin’s totally crazy about Hannah.

Sasha gets a call from Warren, which raises Calvin’s suspicions about how close she and Warren actually are and makes him even more determined to bring Warren down. Meanwhile, Warren finds it hard juggling his work life with looking after Spencer.

Steph and Sarah’s plot to poach a rival dance school’s students goes awry when they meet the instructor: the drop-dead gorgeous Fernando. Although Steph is mad about Fernando’s threat to her dance school, they agree to meet for a drink, leaving a jealous Cindy fuming.

They get on well and so Steph asks Fernand to join her business. At first he says no; but on talking to Tom and seeing how much he loves Steph, Fernando changes his mind. They do such good business, they think of making a DVD.

Justin decides the only way to get some cash together is to sell the games console and games, much to Ste’s fury.

Carmel is dismayed to see Calvin in the village and tells him he’s ruined every bit of trust and respect she had for him. She tells him she saw Sasha and Warren together and Calvin freaks.

Sarah wakes up in Warren’s bed filled with regrets, as memories of the night before and regrets of the morning present wash across her. Archie catches up with Sarah later and assures her that even though she slept with Warren last night, he is still holding out for her. Theresa hits the town with Anita, enlisting her unwitting help for a spot of casual shoplifting. And Nancy and Ravi are getting on surprisingly well in spite of their respective infidelities.

Jacqui has taken Theresa under her wing, and together they are putting Theresa’s false pregnancy bump device for shoplifting into over drive. Loretta and Dom are excited because they are off to see a rare bird that has nested in Hollyoaks. But Dom is ill and Loretta can’t help but worry about him. Dom spots the bird first but lets out an almighty sneeze and, quick as a flash, the bird disappears. Dom feels terrible but all Loretta cares about is seeing Dom get better so she takes him home for some much needed TLC. Dom couldn’t be happier; Loretta just seems too good to be true.

The McQueens embark on a massive shoplifting spree, which proves to be a huge success. Carmel wonders if Theresa’s predisposition to thievery and bunking off school is because she is a McQueen.

It’s Valentine’s Day, and when Ash arrives boasting of a night of romance and luxury for Hannah, a jealous Justin advises a more personal touch. Justin can’t believe how literally Ash takes his advice, and is left trumped when Hannah gets her very own car! Michaela and Mercedes have a blazing row, leaving Zak and Malachy bemused.

Sasha is thrilled when she catches Warren naked on his way into the shower: her crush is growing by the day. So when she gets to finally kiss him, she is thrilled.

Rhys complains to Josh that they never hang out together any more so Josh invites him to Leah’s birthday party, where a drunk Rhys causes havoc when he insults Amy. Ste’s mum Pauline arrives unannounced with a birthday present. Outraged that he’s not allowed to see his own daughter on her birthday, Pauline forces Ste to hot foot it to the Barnes’, where she is devastated to discover that Ste is not Leah’s father. Down in the dumps, Amy tidies up after Leah’s party, and, in amongst the rubbish, finds the bank book from Ste.

Calvin confides to Warren that today’s the day he hears about his promotion. Ravi finds himself alone and in charge of the Loft, so he invites Kris over for some fun. Nancy and Kris are ready for a live show, when Kris receives a text from Ravi telling him he wants to see him straight away; and when Kris returns to calm down an angry Nancy one thing leads to another… This leaves her feeling guilty and so later she overcompensates with Ravi.

Carmel enlists a reluctant Calvin as a model when Evissa has a visit from a sales manager, who turns up driving the same car that Warren has asked Calvin to steal for him. He is feeling guilty, so he buys her a top of the range mobile with his ill-gotten gains.

Spencer insists that Warren should invite Sasha over for dinner with him. Ste asks Dom for his job back, but no matter how hard he protests his innocence, Dom is unable to forgive him.

Zak and Michaela only have eyes for each other but are still keeping their romance under wraps. Archie is onto them and Zak’s forced to admit it, but insists it’s just casual and he can take it or leave it – but how does this make Michaela feel? Will she forgive his comments – and does he really mean it?

After some time to think, Zak and Michaela regret their outbursts but try to act cool about it, until Zak finally tells Michaela he loves her. This puts Michaela on cloud nine until the new loves have a spat over Zak’s sister, Hayley. She has decided to stick around but Zak is shocked when he finds her in bed with Archie. But does Hayley allow herself to be judged by her brother?

Meanwhile, Russ is determined to be a good teacher and lead Gaz on the right path.
Russ collars Gaz and asks why he’s constantly getting himself into trouble. But as Russ persuades Gov to give Gaz a second chance and not exclude him from school, Gaz is torching Relish. Russ can’t believe how gullible he has been.

Justin and Ash can’t stop bickering And Justin’s annoyed with Ash’s attitude towards Hannah.

Elliot is convinced he’s seriously ill when he starts seeing strange colours and Nancy and Hannah decide it’s time to find Sarah a man.

Sarah feels dreadful that Nancy had to cancel her plans to see Ravi, while Ravi thinks he’s messed things up with Nancy. Kris resolves to do all he can to help him woo her back. Love is soon in the air when Nancy and Ravi’s reunite.

Amy warns Zoe to stay away from Mike – but Zoe is shocked when Mike asks her to come back to him.

Steph and Tom return to the village and Steph’s annoyed to find Mobs shut: Cindy says it’s because she’s ill, but it’s obvious that she’s got a hangover.

When Frankie hears of Steph’s return she is upset that she hasn’t heard from her. Cindy and Steph continue to wind each other up and Cindy takes great joy in mentioning her modelling assignment. In an attempt to cheer Steph up, Frankie tentatively suggests she could open her own dance school.

Lauren is furious that Newt seems preoccupied with Frankie and not at all interested in what she has planned for them. Newt and Lauren decide to use Frankie’s old flat as a den, but find their plans hijacked when Theresa invites herself over. Their plans for a night of romance are further foiled when Cindy discovers their love nest and blackmails Newt.

Elsewhere Elliot is uncomfortable when Malachy and Mercedes get passionate and semi-naked in the communal area and Cindy convinces Steph to come with her to visit Darren in prison.

Newt is feeling the effects of not taking his medication as Frankie takes him to visit Jack and Darren in prison. But he wants to make his relationship with Lauren so he continues – even though he has to try and block Eli out as he struggles with the side effects.

Elliot is snowed under with college work and doesn’t appreciate the fact that Archie has been brewing his own ale ready for yet another party in the halls.

Things are still awkward between Sarah and Zoe, who is worried how Sarah’s reacting to her around Mike. Desperate to prove to herself that she’s not gay, Sarah dolls herself up and heads to the SU Bar to get herself a man.

Louise continues to plot her revenge against Warren as he is oblivious and promises her a perfect day for their wedding. Mandy is shaken being in such close proximity to Warren and is worried about going through with Louise’s plan. Will she be able to help bring his downfall?

When Bel thinks Leila got an A in her law assignment she throws a celebratory lunch for all the family, half of whom know that Leila is actually an art student.

Elliot dresses up as Santa in the SU Bar and enlists the help of Hannah and Archie as his elves. He senses that things between him and Hannah aren’t going well so Archie and Zak encourage him to make a big romantic gesture.

And Cindy asks Rhys to take care of Holly for a day in return for sexual favours, so he decides to take her to see Father Christmas. Holly thinks Cindy should forget about Darren and go out with Rhys, but Cindy can’t hide her feelings for Darren, so Holly sneaks out to go and stay with Rhys – meaning that Cindy wakes up to find her gone.

Newt agrees to enter a karaoke competition at The Dog. Hannah and Sarah hang out in the SU Bar discussing boys. In spite of her protestations, Hannah clearly had a great time with Matt in Paris. In a last-ditch attempt to save her failing relationship, Hannah dresses up as an alien and forces herself to watch some sci-fi.

As Frankie prepares to perform as Britney Spears in the karaoke final at The Dog, Newt takes advantage of her absence by going to see Lauren. And Elliot invites Hannah to the robot convention, but Neville seems more interested than she is.

At Relish Ash tells Gilly and Zak that he wants to choose one of them as manager, so they decide to have a burger cook-off. Gaz turns up at Relish when Ash isn’t there and sprays the lads with as much ketchup as possible. Zak goes home early, leaving Gilly to close up, but Gaz and his mates come back. What is it that they want

Calvin goes to see Gaz and his mates because it transpires that Gilly was mugged – but they all have alibis. So when Zak bumps into Gaz he distributes some justice of his own.

Tony has to enter his plea in court for the statutory rape of Theresa. How will he fare one he has to face up to the law?

When Calvin visits Relish to ask Zak about Gaz getting beaten up, Gilly realises that Zak saw him get mugged and didn’t do anything about it. And when Gaz and his mates turn up to avenge Zak’s attack, there’s no-one there to help Gilly.

Carmel is excited, on her first day as school liaison officer, but Calvin is clearly occupied with other things. He is looking forward to helping mark out on a raid but when they go into the Loft with baseball bats he realises it isn’t official.

Sarah is struggling to cope with her feelings towards Zoe after their lesbian encounter. Louise panics when she discovers lots of missed calls and wonders where Warren is. With an unexpected visit from Mark, she immediately thinks the worst, but is relieved to hear that Warren’s injured but alive. When he returns home from hospital, Louise enjoys taking care of him – until Mandy turns up and eventually confesses to her affair with him.

Louise hides her heartbreak but now she knows the truth about his infidelity, looking after him becomes more difficult. In a bid to assure herself of his love, Louise suggest they both take the time to write their wedding vows.

Leila is dismayed to find that someone has been stealing her advent calendar chocolates as well as pilfering food from Halls. Convinced Archie is responsible, she barges into his room, only to find he has an alibi: his stalker.

But as the ructions continue over the missing food, a smug Leila eventually comes up with the thief – caught red handed on her spycam.

The McQueens want him hung, drawn and quartered and although it is tearing her apart Jacqui knows she must go to the police – so Tony ends up being arrested.

The police try to get him to admit that he slept with an underage girl and Tony’s life looks like it could fall apart.

Meanwhile the re-naming of The Dog takes a colourful turn as the themed opening night for The Jollly Roger turns into a gay night. Hannah is disgusted by Neville’s attempts to get rid of his new customers – although eventually he warms to the gay crowd and decides to embrace the idea.

Seeing how fit the girls from The Saturdays are, Rhys decides to go and support Josh in The Battle of the Bands. Warren puts Ash down when he asks Mandy out on a date. Mandy’s not impressed but there’s not much she can do without giving the game away.

Russ tells Ravi he has to stay away from Nancy unless he’s prepared to tell her everything – but he says he misses her and wants her back.

Ash ropes Anita and Lauren into working for him in Relish when he realises they’re bunking off school and none of his staff have turned up. But will he meet their pay demands? And why do they stage a protest outside Relish?

That’s not all the excitement for Hannah. Later in the week, she’s whisked off to Paris with a music producer called Matt. Elliot is very unhappy to hear this news.

Dominic’s feeling generous this week and tells Mercedes that she can move into Tony’s flat. She does, but she later hears Dom and Tony having a row about her arrival. Her sister, Jacqui’s not best please to find her there either.

Meanwhile, Malachy has plans to win back Mercedes. But his scheming may be a little extreme!

Neville tells Ste and Justin that he has a new tenant for the flat and orders them to pack up and move out the following day. This seems a little harsh. When they find out the new tenant is Dom, they do their best to convince him that they could all live happily together. But will Dom agree?

Later in the week, Lauren decides to give her apology another go. At first, Newt still won’t speak to her but once Lauren persuades him to read her diary to gain an insight into her feelings about him all is forgiven.

Frankie has another tough task ahead of her this week. She has to head to court to see Jack and Darren make their pleas. How will that work out?

But as Hannah musters support for the party, one person is definitely not keen to lend theirs. Sarah is incredibly jealous of Hannah’s growing friendship with Elliot. In a big hissy fit she vents her envy on Hannah’s Halloween outfit, tearing the dress to shreds.

Niall starts to put his evil plans to abduct the McQueen children into place, but they’re temporarily thwarted when his former foster carer Mrs Snow pays him a visit.

Myra worries that something serious has happened to her children when it starts to become obvious that they’ve all disappeared.

Elsewhere in Chester, the Osbornes prepare to jet off to their new life in Spain. Jack and Darren say an emotional goodbye to each other. Newt sneaks off to visit Lauren to say farewell. The poor girl’s rather upset at his departure and tries to persuade him to stay. Newt tells her he can’t, but he can’t fully explain why. Then he spots something quite unusual – Niall forcing Jacqui into the back of a van.

Myra’s concerns for her kids are growing. Things get even worse when she finds baby Max on her doorstep with a note from Tina saying that she just can’t cope anymore. Myra knows things are not all as they seem.

Myra heads off to see Jacqui, but when she finds out that she’s missing too, she tells Tony of her fears. Myra thinks that she’s being punished for what she did all of those years ago.
Niall has also just discovered another bombshell. He finds out that Jack is still alive. It seems that Jack was responsible for putting his dad in prison and abandoning the lad. Niall decides to get his revenge on Jack too, and promptly knocks him unconscious.
Myra later arrives at church, only to find Niall waiting for her. He wastes no time in telling her that he’s her son. She demands to know where her children are and things start to get nasty.

Over at the Dog, Darren is starting to enjoy having the pub all to himself. But then he hears a strange noise from the flat and is horrified to find his dad badly beaten. Jack tells him all about mad Niall and how the McQueens are in grave danger.

Tony calls Myra and his worst fears are confirmed when he hears the girls screaming in the background and then suddenly the line is cut dead. Tony and Dom are frantic. Will they be able to get to the girls to safety before evil Niall does any real harm?

Niall has decided that he’s going to start his life afresh now that he has Steph and Tom. But will he be able to behave himself and get the happy ending he longs for? Of course not. Things quickly turn sour for him when he discovers that Tom has nabbed his folder containing all of the details Kieron knew about him being Myra’s son.

Niall heads straight to see Myra and starts to think about how this could be the reconciliation that he’s wished for. But then Myra drops a bombshell. She tells Niall that even if she had the chance to find her long-lost son, she doesn’t think she’d want to. Niall is gutted to hear this, if only Myra knew who she was really talking to! The lad is angry and reaches for the nearest heavy object – an iron. Just as he’s about to strike Myra with it, the rest of the McQueen’s turn up. Myra doesn’t know how close she came to being one of Niall’s victims.

Michaela comes up with a cunning plan to get her own way this week. She uses the fact that Amy needs help with her art project to get closer to Mike. She then decides to enroll on a journalism course at HCC and enlists Mike as her tour guide of the college. But the trip around campus doesn’t run as smoothly as she anticipated.

Elsewhere in the village, Mandy and Louise decide to put on an open day at the Loft to promote their new business venture. Of course, things are more than a little awkward between Mandy and Warren, seeing as they’ve just shared an illicit night of passion, unbeknown to Louise.

Warren gets a serious attack of the green-eyed monster when Louise suggests to him that she thinks there may be chemistry between Mandy and Dom. But Mandy soon tells Warren that she’s not at all interested in Dom, in fact, she proves it by kissing Warren. Oh dear. These two are playing a very dangerous game!

Russ and Tina are still struggling to get along. They know they have to come together for the sake of baby Max, but they really don’t seem suited to one another. Russ is finding fatherhood tough too, but luckily Nancy comes to the rescue when he gets in a spot of bother with baby Max.

Calvin has plenty to worry about this week too. He’s becoming fearful that the police are going to find out what really happened to Nige. What will happen if the truth finally does surface?

Mercedes soon finds out the truth of her own accord and confronts Malachy about it at the Dog. In full public view she forces him to admit that he may have infected her with HIV.

A distraught Mercedes then seems to hit her self-destruct button, as she’s just unable to come to terms with the shock. Jacqui eventually persuades her sister to go for a test, so that she can find out the truth one way or another.

Russ is still coming to terms with the fact that he’s baby Max’s dad. He tells Tina that fatherhood is going to take some getting used to. He assures Tina that she and Max can stay with him for as long as they need. But what’s going to happen in their future?

Dom is not taking the news of Tina’s adultery too well. Tony tries to persuade him that he’s better off without her.

Mandy tries to take Dom’s mind off Tina by encouraging him to explore some extra-curricular activities, and when she spots Elliot with a metal detector, she thinks it’s just the ticket.

Amy has some news for Josh too. In a bid to get Ste out of her life forever, she’s decided that she’s going to have her pregnancy terminated. The only thing is she hasn’t told her dad yet. What on earth is he going to say?

When the day of the abortion arrives, Amy starts to get cold feet. Josh tries to persuade her to go ahead with it and tells her that she’s doing the right thing. But does he only have his own interests at heart here?

Darren’s feeling guilty about the way that Cindy has behaved. He tries to make things up to Newt, but Newt is in hiding. The poor young lad is terrifies that Eli has come back to find him.

Darren also has a plan for Frankie and Jack. He tries to get them to have a special meal together to discuss the possibility of them moving away to live in Spain. Could this be the answer to all of their troubles?

Carmel and Calvin return from their honeymoon this week too. We wonder what married life has in store for them on their return to Chester.

It’s the start of term for Tina. She’s happy to be heading back to college. Dom’s not too impressed when he finds himself left holding the baby.

Tina’s sister Jacqui’s not having a good week. She’s annoyed by John Paul’s sudden disappearance and the fact that she’s having a few teething problems getting her business up and running. She desperately wants to prove to her other half Tony that she’s up for this challenge and that she can make a success of the tanning salon. When the day finally comes for the grand opening of the salon, things don’t exactly run smoothly.

Dom and Tina exchange verbal blows at the new salon. Despite his best efforts to make everything alright, Dom still finds that Tina is being a right pain. Exasperated with all the bickering he heads over to the Loft to find solace in the bottom of a pint glass. Once there, he gets chatting to Gemma, an attractive girl on the rebound. Oh dear, you know where this is going, don’t you?

Tina is not too impressed when Dom returns home the next morning. Could this be the end for Tina and Dom?

Caroline’s decided she’s had enough of Hollyoaks and buys two tickets for her and Russ to leave and go travelling. Russ may not be leaving on a jet plane just yet though. Tina turns up on his doorstep and breaks some news that might just keep him in Chester. She tells him that baby Max is his son. What will Russ make of this bombshell?

Amy’s not having a good week. She’s angry at Ste who insists he’s going to be a part of their baby’s life. The reality of having him in her life forever starts to dawn on Amy and she confides in Michaela that the only way to rid herself of Ste would be to have an abortion. But will she go through with it?

Meanwhile, Michaela’s has worries of her own when she wakes up one morning next to Zak. Neither is impressed as the reality of what they did the night before sinks in.
Over on the college campus an accident prone Leila gets herself into trouble after a collision with Justin. The lad ends up in hospital where Leila visits him and can’t bring herself to tell him the truth.

Poor Justin’s seemingly concussed and bangs on about how great it is to have a girlfriend like Leila. Leila’s feeling pretty guilty but can’t bring herself to tell him she’s not his girlfriend.

Once released from hospital, Justin makes the most of his ‘relationship’ by taking his washing straight around to Leila’s for her to do and he wastes no time in telling her exactly how he wants it done. Leila is soon regretting keeping up this pretence!

Calvin wakes up that morning and realises he has to come clean to Carmel about Nige. But will he go through with his honest intentions? And what will Carmel say if she does find out the truth?

Over at the McQueens’ house it’s absolute chaos. The family is rushing around getting ready for the wedding. Carmel looks stunning in her wedding dress, there’s only one slight problem with it – it’s too tight. Oh dear. Little sister Michaela comes up with an ingenious plan to get Carmel down the aisle – one that involves roller skates!

Warren gets himself into a bit of a panic when the police raid The Loft. He promptly tells Calvin that he’s got drugs stashed on the premises. Calvin quickly puts the cocaine in his own pocket. Eddie then arrives with the sniffer dogs. Has Calvin just put his career and his marriage on the line? Carmel certainly isn’t too happy as she waits for her groom at the altar. It’s promising to be an exciting week in Hollyoaks village!

Louise has doubts of her own this week too as she questions Warren again about Mandy. Warren assures her that there’s absolutely nothing going on between them. He should have added a “yet” to the end of his sentence though, because as the week progresses he finds himself in a rather compromising position with Mandy. Will this sneaky pair get away with a night of passion?

Craig and John Paul are also finding that the path of true love never runs smoothly in soapland. Craig makes his feeling for John Paul quite clear. But in the wake of Kieron’s death, John Paul firmly tells him that he’s blown his chance.

As John Paul watches Craig walk away, he finds a one-way ticket to Dublin’s been secretly stashed in his pocket. He soon has second thoughts.

When John Paul later tells Niall that he’s thinking of packing up and heading across to the Emerald Isle to be with Craig, he doesn’t realise he’s about to get into an extremely sinister situation. Niall drugs John Paul’s drink, intending to finish him off the way he did Kieron.

As John Paul gets stuck into his spiked drink, Niall watches on waiting for the drugs to work. Unwittingly, John Paul has actually managed to switch the beers around. So little does naughty Niall realise, he’s now drinking the spiked beer.

As John Paul finishes his drink and makes a dash for it to try and catch up with Craig, Steph discovers Niall unconscious on the floor. We told you that it was a dramatic week in Chester!
