These people are not `traditionalists’ – they are bigots. We should use the correct word. Most of them hate the real traditions of the anglican church and have `meetings’ not services and sing `choruses’ and not hymns. They do not represent the traditional broad vies of a traditionally inclusive church, but rather the narrow views of a minority bigotted fundamentalist mindset.

Oh heavens, a split in the church! However will we cope? Schisming is what Christianity does. The worry is that we’ll end up with a progressive branch who accept gay relationships and are happy to perform gay marriages (good news for gay Christians like myself), and one conservative branch who are more reluctant than ever, not having to worry about offending their progressive cousins. Not that they seem to worry at the moment.

Then again, Her Majesty could just bash some heads together; that would be worth watching. Do we know what the head of the church thinks about us?

Barry I agree with you. Just as gay politicians and pressure from the GLBT Community have had a postive effect on various governments around the world so to is it possible that a gay bishop willl change the face and thinking of the CoE I really pray and hope so – it is the beginning of change and about time too. However, I don’t see why he should be celibate that’s a bit of a paradox. We need to give him support and encourage more gays to become CoE priests.

I don’t seem to remember “Anglican Mainstream” saying anything about Uganda’s proposed anti-gay law. Oh, wait, they said F*** ALL about it (as did the rest of the anglican hierarchy).

I keep arguing that the Church of England (Anglican) is never in one piece anyway. The church was founded in rancour by the Monarch trying to divorce his first (brother’s) wife to marry Anne Boylen whom he was infatuated with.

The church ever since has gone through one form of quarrel or another but I admire it cos it transforms and comes out ahead of the rest in all of it. However, the leadership of Rowan Williams is the worst things that is happening to the Anglican church because he is weak and indecisive. And a weak leader is worse than a weak follower. The earlier Rowan goes, the better and assuring for this Church to survive. Southwark must not agree to be bullied by the conservative christians this time.

Geoffrey John is a great man and a wonderful priest. He’d make a superb bishop.
Please stop bu–ering about and get the mitre on his head, then we’ll have visible evidence that the C of E really is inclusive. Perhaps some people will put a stop to their ranting hate campaign against the church.

I don’t know who they think they are kidding, but the Church of England is *already* split – split on this crucial issue; and it is a clear Northern/Southern Hemisphere split, moreover, with the African contingent most vocal of all. Why can’t they be more like the Quakers? American and UK Quakers disagree on most things, but they agree to differ.

Presenting stealing money from the tax-payer as the moral equivalent of a consenting sexual relationship shows you just where these bigots are at. It’s just another story illustrating how totalitarian evangelicals are: it’s not enough to do what they want (not actually make love with your own partner); they need to own your soul as well (make you condemn making love with your own partner).
Splitting the Church of England? I just wish the buggers would get on with it. We have been plagued by this Byzantine state church and its obsessions for long enough. Modern secular pluralist democracy anyone?
